Every couple has its own story, and
we even have two! Depending on whom of us you ask, we
either met at the cafeteria at the University of Basel or
during a seminar on family law, in the beautiful Swiss
mountains. However, we both agree that it was at the
latter where we first chatted with each other. Discussing
rather delicate political issues, neither of us would
depart from their opinion and so we did not exactly start
off as best friends. Who would have thought, back then,
that we would be planning our wedding 6 years later...
Soon, we had to reconsider our first impressions. We
went on a few dates and realized that the other was not as
stubborn as they had appeared. We would sit and talk for
hours and had interesting, absorbing conversations, even
if we didn’t always share the same opinion. So we started
out as friends. We stayed in touch while Nicole was in
Geneva and when she returned a year later, we were both
happy to see each other more frequently. After a couple of
trips to the movies, a lot of coffee and that special
soccer game, we couldn’t deny that along the way, we had
become more than just best friends.
After only a few months, we went on our first trip, which
took us to Madrid. Discovering new places and things
together is one of our greatest passions. And Mejillones a
la Marinera, which we had for the first time on a
fantastic night in Madrid, is still one of the many dishes
that we love to cook and enjoy together. Since then, we
have travelled together near and far. We kept each other
warm in the cold in Lapland and splashed about in the
refreshing water at 48°C in Oman. We are so happy and
grateful that we have been able to see all these beautiful
places and to share our joy with each other.
We got engaged while we were on a holiday in Yucatan
in spring 2009 and instantly began to discuss getting
married in Sonoma County. We had travelled the region the
autumn before and fallen in love with it at first sight.
Seeing our dream getting closer and closer to its
fulfillment is incredibly exciting and we are so happy to
be able to share this excitement with you.
